Body-for-LIFE Case Study

Mark Dawson

Body-for-LIFE Case Study - Mark Dawson

SLEAFORD GYM OWNER TRANSFORMS HIS BODY

TO SHOW HOW IT'S DONE!

Mark Dawson - owner of the New Image Gym in Sleaford - started the EAS Body-for-LIFE fitness challenge to inspire his customers, then went on to achieve his own 'best ever' body. His transformation was so dramatic that he decided to enter the national EAS Body-for-LIFE Retailer Of The Year Award - and won £750, a £250 Experience voucher and £500 worth of EAS products.

Natural body builder Mark already knew about combining a careful diet with self-discipline and intensive workouts. But the 36-year-old father of three was surprised at just how quickly and effectively Body-for-LIFE plan helped him shape up.

"My vocation is to encourage people to fulfil their fitness potential and I think leading by example is crucial," says Mark. "If I got good results from the Challenge I could show gym members my "before" and "after" photographs on the wall and thus motivate them to give the Challenge a try."

Mark, owner of New Image Gym, in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, had been weight training for many years and was very experienced with training techniques. Yet even he was having trouble losing his tummy before starting Body-for-LIFE. 'I started the Challenge carrying too much body fat and with a potbelly. Now I'm totally ripped!"

In fact, Mark, 36, lost three stones and reduced his body fat level from 20% to a lean 8%. He was amazed at how quickly the changes occurred. 'In the first week I lost 8lbs, then a steady 2lbs every week thereafter,' he recalls.

No stranger to the discipline of dieting down for shows, Mark found the Body-for-LIFE eating plan provided a massive boost to his energy levels. He says: "Last year, when I dieted for a bodybuilding show, I reduced my carbs too much and felt ill. This year I thought I'd use the Body-for-LIFE diet and it really gave me a lot more energy."

Mark's plan to encourage others to follow his example is working really well. His pilot programme has already seen seven men and women complete the programme with amazing results. "Our members are greatly motivated by seeing others in the gym follow a programme and achieve results. Body-for-LIFE isn't an advertising gimmick: it really works. And when you see the guy or girl next to you in the gym changing shape before your eyes each week, that is the proof that many people need to get going themselves."

Mark motivates his members by running his own Body-for-LIFE contest with a year's free membership as the prize for the most impressive change in one man and one woman. The 'before' and 'after' pictures of contestants are put up in the gym to keep motivation levels high among those competing and those thinking about it. But surely the biggest incentive is that the gym manager himself followed the programme, achieved a superb result and is there each day to guide others to their own goals.

What is Body-for-LIFE?

The EAS Body-for-LIFE exercise and nutrition programme alternates short, intensive 45-minute weight training sessions on one day with 20-minute cardio vascular sessions the next. The intensity of the sessions is high to ensure that participants can suitably fatigue their body and 'overload' their muscles, therefore ensuring impressive results. The dietary plan involves eating five to six small meals a day to provide energy for the intensive workouts and sufficient nutrients for adequate recovery. Find out more about the exercises and nutrition at www.bfl-uk.com.

The Body-for-LIFE Challenge is a free fitness challenge open to men and women of all ages and fitness levels. Entrants must follow the exercise and eating plan for 12 weeks and submit 'before' and 'after' photographs of their body. Prizes are awarded to men and women in three age categories.
