Dewi Winkle The British Triathlon Federations National Project Officer is focussing his efforts on the Health and Fitness Sector after realising the benefits the introduction of the sport can have for all concerned. “The BTF realise that there is great opportunity to increase levels of participation in the sport within health clubs by introducing training and competitions. This is not a new concept but one that has not yet been truly exploited: by offering the knowledge and expertise that we have and combining this with the needs of the health clubs everyone can potentially benefit. The sport is the fastest growing one in the
Club within a club concept
It is a friendly sport where the opportunity of creating a triathlon club within a health club exists, enabling the social side of the sport to be enjoyed alongside the training and competition. I believe that most clubs, Independent, Health Chain and Local Authority run clubs can all benefit. I am currently involved in planning and introduction of triathlon in several clubs and would welcome the opportunity to discuss further.”
British Triathlon conform to the UKCC coaching framework and are striving to increase the number and quality of coaches throughout the UK, an ideal option for Continual Professional Development upto level 4 as a Triathlon Coach. The fast track option at level one excists for personal trainers and fitness instructors with previous knowledge, preferably in one if not all of the 3 disciplines (swimming, biking, running).
