The Lifestyle Categories- nutrition tips

Which one do you fit into?

On the Run

On the Run Girl is always in a hurry, if something has to be done it must be done as soon as possible. She has a lot of responsibility, very high expectations for herself and others and very little patience.

Nutrition tip: Take time out to eat healthy meals. Don’t be tempted to grab high fat, fast foods when on the run. Instead opt for fresh wholegrain sandwiches with salmon, tuna, chicken and lots of salad. Always carry a bottle of water with you, to keep well hydrated and fruit for snacks.

The Worrier

The Worrier worries about everything, she makes mountains out of molehills. The Worrier often suffers sleepless nights as she has too much on her mind, she finds it hard to relax and has low self esteem.

Nutrition tip: Avoid large heavy meals late at night, as this will affect sleep due to indigestion and discomfort. Ensure a good intake of omega 3 fats by having oily fish such as salmon, mackerel or fresh tuna at least once per week. Omega 3 fats are essential for brain function and a deficiency may potentially affect mood and behaviour.

Workaholic

The Workaholic puts her career before anything else in her life including relationships, socialising and family. She works very hard, enduring long hours as she is predominately focussed on moving up the career ladder.

Nutrition tip: If working long hours have plenty of healthy snacks in the office to sustain energy levels and to prevent reliance on high fat snacks such as crisps and chocolate. Keep a stock of fresh and dried fruits, smoothies, low fat yoghurts and fruit/cereal bars.

Night Owl

The Night Owl works irregular hours and finds her work commitments clash with her social life. She may find herself waking up sluggish due to irregular sleeping patterns, which can throw the body clock out of sync.  The Night Owl can easily fall into routines of eat, sleep and work, letting exercise, leisure and her social life fall by the wayside.

Nutrition tip: Try not to rely on lots of tea/coffee and cola type drinks to keep you alert and able to work longer. Instead drink lots of water, flavoured with sugar free squash or fruit juices to prevent headaches and fatigue.

World on Your Shoulders

The World on Your Shoulders is balancing many responsibilities including a job, family, husband, finances etc. She is very routine focussed but has very little time to herself and has a habit of putting everything before herself.

Nutrition tip: Make time to enjoy a healthy meal together every evening, such as fresh pasta, rice with lean red meat, fish or chicken and lots of vegetables or salad

Party Girl

The PARTY GIRL puts her social life before anything else; she wants to have as much fun as possible before she gets too old. Her job may be of great importance to her, but is secondary to her social life. Late nights and early mornings can soon begin to take their toll

Nutrition tip: Remember long-term heavy alcohol intake can seriously affect health. Try to limit intake to 14 units per week. Aim for no more than 2-3 units per day with at least 1-2 alcohol free days per week. One unit is a small glass of wine, ½ pint beer or one single measure of spirits.

The Last Minute Girl

The Last Minute Girl excels under pressure, but leaves everything to the last minute meaning that everything has to be done at once, causing stress levels and blood pressure to increase.

Nutrition tip: Stress can affect the immune system so optimise intake of protective antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin C, beta carotene and vitamin E Good sources of vitamin c include kiwi fruit, mangos, citrus fruits, watercress, broccoli, tomatoes. Beta-carotene is found in brightly coloured fruit and vegetables such as spinach, apricots, melon, sweet potato and carrots. Vitamin E is found in avocado, nuts, seeds and vegetable oils
